Traveling Information

All hunters should arrive the evening before their hunt. 

Wilderness Hunters 

Flying    For those of you who prefer to fly, you will fly into Missoula, Montana.   Once you arrive , you will need to notify Ruby's Inn, they are  just 5 minutes from the airport and  will shuttle you to and from the airport at no charge. Please call us when you arrive to let us know you made it.  On the last day of your hunt, we will drop you off at Ruby's and they will shuttle you to the airport the next morning.

There are many motels in Missoula and we highly recommend Ruby's Inn & Convention Center.  You will need to make reservations and let them know you are a hunter with Bitterroot Outfitters so you will be given a special hunters rate.  Please call us when you arrive.  We will meet you at Ruby's 6:30am the morning of your hunt.  Ask Ruby's about their  free storage for anything you may want to leave behind.  We will then travel to the trailhead where the packer will be waiting with  saddled horses & mules ready to go. 

Driving    Reserve a room in at one of Hamilton's Hotels.  Once you arrive, call us and give us your room number.  We will meet you the morning of your hunt.  Many of our hunters prefer driving.  This way they do not have to plan arrangements for shipping their elk home.  If you drive, you can park your vehicle at the trailhead or at our property for the duration of the hunt.

Remember, 1 duffle bag less than 75 pounds, smaller than a hay bale.

Winter Range Hunters    

Flying    If you are flying, it is your responsibility to notify us ahead of time with your flight schedule so we can arrange to pick you up at no charge.  We will drop you off at the airport the day after your hunt ends at no charge.

Driving    If you are driving, we ask that you arrive the evening before your hunt around 5:00pm. If you arrive early, please do not check in till 4:00.  We will send you directions.

  • There is no gear limit for our Winter Range hunters.
